The Geography GCSE group took part in two field trips to study flooding in Lea Valley and urban sustainability in Hyde Park

 

The first field trip- Lea Valley Flooding Day at Stratford on the 9th July 2018

Students investigated the causes of flooding on The River Lea and at the Thames Barrier considering the geology, land cover and shape of the drainage basin. Students  visited the river and measured the impacts associated with flood events in the town.

INVESTIGATING HYDE PARK AND ITS ROLE IN URBAN SUSTAINABILITY – FULL DAY SESSION
The students investigated the role of Hyde Park in London today, following a geographical route of enquiry. They developed and tested their own hypotheses to compare two contrasting sites within the park. Students learnt about how the park is managed while creating land use maps and measuring human impacts and biodiversity. This session gave students the chance to use GIS (geographic information system) and a range of fieldwork equipment including quadrats and anemometers. They evaluated the park’s contribution to sustainable urban living in London

Whilst in Hyde Park- the students saw the RAF 100 flypast celebrations.
