The Red class have been learning about hearing today. We found out what an Ear Trumpet was used for in the days before Hearing Aids and had a go at making a trumpet to make us hear quiet voices as if they were louder.
We used a drum to discover how vibrations travel in the same way our eardrum vibrates and creates sound waves to our nerves so the message of what we are hearing goes to our brains.
We made telephones using cans and string, but these can only work in a straight line. If you wanted to talk around a corner they didn't work.
We finished up the lesson checking each others breathing and heart beat using a Doctors stethescope which is really like a microphone and an ear trumpet joined together. Thankfully all the Red class are alive and well.
