Musicians from Wigmore Hall Learning's Ignite ensemble spent 4 weeks working with children and young people in the schoolrooms at St. Mary's and The Royal Brompton Hospitals. Linking in with their school topic, 'Africa: Continent of Contrasts', each week's workshop was spent looking at a different aspect, country or rhythm. These included looking at wild animals and Sudanese rhythms; Algeria and Rai rhythms; Egypt , the pyramids and arabic rhythms; and African skies, thinking about pulse and texture. Each week, the young people made a new piece of music with Ignite; playing instruments, coming up with word-rhythms and even doing virtuosic solos! These were then recorded.
