musiciansAndre, Daniel, Laura, Sara and Sarah worked with musicians Daniel, Julian and Kate from Wigmore Hall to create compositions based on Pulcinella by Stravinsky. We looked at Picasso's painting "Three Musicians" (Pablo Picasso designed all of the sets and costumes for the first performance) and using poetry by Apollinaire who appears in the painting we created two pieces. Everyone joined in a rhythmic version of "Pab-lo Pi-cass-o". Listen out for the "Rocky" quote!

Pulcinella is a ballet based around characters from the commedia dell'arte: Pulcinella is the Italian version of Mr Punch! This ballet marked the beginning of Stravinsky's neo-classical period of composition. He borrowed original music from two hundred years earlier to write the music for his ballet. The artist Pablo Picasso designed all of the sets and costumes for the first performance and so in this session we looked at his painting called "Three Musicians", currently kept at MOMA in New York.
