Once again we have been very fortunate, and two of our staff have been able to travel to Lisieux in the beautiful region of Calvados in northern France for the annual meeting of the New Technology workshop group.

This time we travelled in an ancient VW Scirocco, but, with skillfull navigation from Fred and a steady hand on the wheel from Martin, we arrived ready to meet and collaborate with our European collegues.

We spent two days of glorious sunshine, locked deep in a computer suite at the local IT institute, exploring a range of new technology and discussing the forthcoming HOPE conference in London in November.

It was also our duty to visit the Calvados distillery, walk ‘les planches’ at Deauville, and to eat ‘les moules frites’ !

We looked at the following software tools:

Audacity, a free tool to edit, record and manipulate audio

Gimp, a free tool for working with images

If you don’t have MS office you can use Open Office

Google Desktop, a tool to quickly search your computer for emails, web history, and files
